Villas in Ubud

Ubud villas are special in Bali due to their location and the relative price of land in the area. It is clear that because real estate is cheaper in this area villas in Ubud can be built bigger and on large plots of land. Also, due to the fact that Ubud is less crowded there is less need for high walls and robust security. Furthermore, Ubud villas may also take advantage of remarkable views and the lovely natural environment.

Villas in Ubud differ from their counterparts in the South in that they tend to be more open and integrate better with the surrounding landscape. This is not to say that villas in Seminyak or Canggu do not do this, but as a general rule, circumstances in Ubud allow for more creativity and flexibility with respect to the architecture, style, theme and layout.

A classic villa complex in Legian or Sanur might involve an extensive outer wall, large gate and other measures to protect the privacy and ensure the security of its’ inhabitants. The close approximation to other tourists makes the need for this much greater, not only for greater enjoyment, but also to make the best use of expensive land. The villas in the south of Bali are meant to create a world away from the outside world for guests to seek refuge and sanctuary from crowds, noise and heat.

On the contrary, in Ubud villas borrow more from the classic Balinese way of life by inviting an integration between the natural environment and the villa itself. Tropical open-air floor plans with panoramic views and direct access to rivers, valleys and charming rural villages are elements that make Ubud villas unique. More space is also prominent in villas in Ubud. The price of land is lower, therefore more cost effective to build a larger structure on a larger plot of land. This gives a great feeling of freedom and sense of “ownership”. Guests feel like there is no boundary between them and their immediate environment, creating an experience unlike traditional hotels or villas elsewhere.

There are villas located in the center of Ubud, but these tend to follow the model of the South and are also more expensive. Generally speaking, you only need to travel 5 minutes by car and you will find wonderful villas with incredible scenery, large open spaces and quick access to a wide variety of fun and interesting places to go and see. There are also a lot of different themes when it comes to Ubud villas. From yoga retreats and wellness centers focused on raw, vegan and organic foods, to ultra-luxury gourmet clubs offering the pinnacle of service, dining and indulgence.

Whatever your choice, the slow pace and laid back style of villas in Ubud is generally intended more for relaxation and comfort. Perhaps what some of them are missing in sophistication, they make up for in peace and serenity. Price may also vary, with cost being generally lower than those villas closer to the beach. This is relative as there is a broad range of types, styles and quality with some providing services or experiences that can command top dollar.
